Painting services in Tallinn and Harju County

Wall and ceiling preparation, painting and a clean final finish.

Smoothly finished light walls and precise ceiling lines in a daylight-filled living room

The painting result is determined above all by the condition of the substrate. Before quoting, we review the need for repairs, filling, sanding and priming, and agree the desired finish level.

Painting is more than applying paint to a wall. A quality result starts with assessing cracks, joints, screw heads, old paint and the substrate. We provide painting services in apartments, private houses, offices and commercial premises in Tallinn and Harju County.

Our aim is an even surface, straight transitions and a clean work area. Where needed, we help choose a paint type, sheen and colour scheme suited to the room's lighting, use and maintenance needs.

What does the service include?

  • filling and sanding walls and ceilings
  • priming, painting and colour changes
  • repairing cracks, corners and transitions
  • interior finishing of apartments, private houses and commercial premises

When should you book this service?

Painting is most often ordered before moving in, to refresh a rental apartment, after bathroom or kitchen renovation or when updating commercial premises. Proper preparation prevents later peeling and visible filler lines.

Work process

Surface preparation

We cover the work area, remove loose paint, fill cracks and assess whether the surface needs full-surface filling or local repairs.

Priming and painting

We choose a primer suited to the substrate and apply even coats, observing drying times and the direction of light.

Final inspection

We check surfaces in daylight and side lighting, correct details and leave the room as clean as possible.

Craftsman secures floor protection before painting

1. Protecting the work area

Before preparation, we protect floors, furniture and finished details. We tape edges as appropriate for the surface to keep the work area clean.

Craftsman smooths wall filler with a wide filling knife

2. Repairs and filling

We check the substrate and repair holes, joints and cracks in the finish. Whether local repairs or full-surface filling are needed depends on the surface condition and desired result.

Craftsman sands a filled wall with a dust-extraction sander

3. Sanding and dust removal

We sand the dried filler and remove dust. A dust-extraction sander helps keep the work area cleaner; before priming, we check surface smoothness and strength.

Craftsman applies primer to a prepared wall

4. Primer suited to the substrate

We choose primer according to the substrate and finish paint. Primer helps even out absorbency and improve adhesion; we start the next stage according to the manufacturer's instructions.

5. Finish painting

We paint walls and ceilings using the agreed paint system, observing drying times between coats. Finally, we check coverage, edges and surface consistency, and clean the work area.

Painting quote

The price of painting depends on whether the surface only needs refreshing or requires extensive preparation. Full-surface filling, crack repairs, old paint removal, priming and a multi-colour scheme change the scope of work. For a quote, it helps to send photos of walls, ceilings, corners and areas that are cracked or uneven.

At the final finishing stage, we check surfaces in both direct and side lighting. This helps reveal filler marks, roller lines and uneven transitions before handover. If painting is connected with wallpapering, panel installation or parquet installation, we plan protection and the sequence of work separately.

Local experience and agreeing the scope of work

For painting, it is important to consider how the apartment or commercial premises are used, as rental properties, homes and offices require different wear resistance and washability classes. When assessing an enquiry, we always consider access, whether the room is occupied, which surfaces need protection and a sensible sequence of work. This helps avoid having to reopen or repair a completed stage later.

Before starting, we provide a clear, realistic estimate. If photos are not enough, we arrange a site visit. This lets us agree on materials, timing, related work and potential risks before the project begins.

Painting prices

Painting prices depend on surface condition. A simple refresh is quicker, but crack repairs, full-surface filling, sanding, priming and several coats of paint change the scope of work. Send photos of walls and ceilings for a more accurate price.

For a faster quotation, please include photos, measurements, the site location and your preferred deadline where possible. This helps us determine whether a site visit is needed or an initial estimate can be based on your description.

Which paint, filler and primer should I choose?

Good painting starts with a compatible material system. We consider the substrate, room humidity, cleaning needs and desired sheen. A paint manufacturer's name alone does not determine suitability: the same manufacturer offers products for different purposes.

Wall paints: a matt finish and washability

A fully matt paint creates a calm surface and makes minor imperfections less noticeable. A glossier finish highlights substrate defects more in side lighting. Washability must be checked separately in the product data sheet: even fully matt paint can be easy to clean. Wear resistance matters in hallways and kitchens, while light and the overall colour impression also matter in living rooms and bedrooms.

  • Vivacolor Wall 4 packaging
Vivacolor Wall 4 is a fully matt wall paint with wet-scrub resistance class 1 under EN 13300, according to the manufacturer. It is a suitable choice if you want a matt yet cleanable surface. The manufacturer gives a recoat time of 2 hours at +23 °C and 50% relative humidity. Wall 4 product information.
  • Tikkurila Joker packaging
Tikkurila Joker is a washable matt interior paint for walls and ceilings in dry rooms. Its advantages are an easy-to-clean surface, M1 emissions classification and ecolabels. According to the manufacturer, it can be recoated after approximately 1–2 hours under normal conditions; when planning work, we follow the specific product data sheet version and site conditions. Joker product information.
  • Tikkurila Luja 7 packaging
Tikkurila Luja 7 is a matt interior paint for rooms subject to more frequent cleaning and moisture. It contains an anti-mould agent and, according to the manufacturer, is suitable for paintable bathroom surfaces, for example. Recoat time is approximately 4 hours under normal conditions. Moisture-resistant paint does not replace the waterproofing system required in wet rooms or eliminate the cause of dampness. Luja 7 product information.

These are examples of suitable products, not a mandatory shopping list. Where needed, we choose a separate ceiling paint, and paints intended specifically for doors, trim and furniture. We assess colour on a sample area in both daylight and artificial lighting. Final products and colours are agreed before work begins.

Fillers: joint filling and fine finishing are different tasks

  • Knauf Uniflott packaging
Joint and repair filler is needed for plasterboard joints, screw heads and deeper repairs. For example, Knauf Uniflott is a joint filler within the plasterboard system. The need for joint tape depends on the board edge and the manufacturer's system. Setting does not mean the surface is already dry enough to paint.
  • Knauf Fill & Finish Light packaging
Ready-to-use lightweight filler, such as Knauf Fill & Finish Light, is suitable for smoothing surfaces in dry rooms and, depending on the system, for joint work too. It does not need to be mixed from powder; the drying time of air-drying filler depends on layer thickness, temperature and humidity. Deep hollows must not be filled with fine finishing filler beyond the permitted layer thickness. Knauf lightweight filler product information.
  • Kiilto LH packaging
Kiilto LH fine filler for dry rooms is suitable for finishing walls and ceilings in a 1–2 mm layer. According to the manufacturer, it dries in approximately one day at +18 °C, depending on conditions. It is not a filler for wet rooms or beneath tiles. Kiilto LH product information.
  • Kiilto Pro LW packaging
Moisture-resistant filler is chosen according to the damp room and subsequent finishing system. For example, Kiilto Pro LW is a ready-to-use filler for dry and wet indoor spaces, with a permitted layer thickness of up to 4 mm. Its technical information gives an approximate drying time of 2–3 hours per millimetre at +18 °C; this may be longer in damp or cool rooms. Filler itself does not replace waterproofing. Kiilto Pro LW product information.

Knauf guide to fillers and finish levels helps distinguish joint work from full-surface filling. Where side lighting is demanding or a smooth painted surface is needed, we agree the required finish level before work begins. A crack caused by structural movement requires assessing the cause, rather than just applying another layer of filler.

Proper primer: when and why is it needed?

A new, filled, porous or unevenly absorbent surface needs a primer compatible with the paint system. It helps even out absorbency and improve adhesion so the finish paint is not patchy. Primer does not replace dust removal or secure a loose paint layer: the substrate must be clean, dry and strong enough.

  • Vivacolor Primer 1 packaging
Primer paint beneath the finish coat helps create a uniform substrate. For example, according to the manufacturer's instructions, Vivacolor Primer 1 is suitable as an interior painting primer and can be recoated after approximately 2 hours at +23 °C and 50% relative humidity. Primer 1 product information.
  • Absorbency-regulating primer before filling is chosen according to the filler and substrate instructions. It is not automatically the same product as the primer used beneath finish paint.
  • Adhesion or isolating primer may be needed on hard glossy surfaces or for stains that show through. For water, soot and rust stains, we assess the cause first and choose a suitable specialist product.

Drying time and full curing

Touch-dry, ready to recoat and fully cured are different stages. Times in the product data sheet assume the temperature, humidity and layer thickness stated there. A cool room, humid air or thick filler layer extends waiting time. We start the next coat only at the appropriate time; we avoid vigorous washing of a freshly painted wall until the curing period specified in the product instructions has elapsed.

Practical information about painting

Materials

For painting, it is important to choose the right filler, primer and paint for the room's use. In kitchens, hallways and children's rooms, washable paint is more practical than a very matt finish; in damp rooms, the paint system must suit the exposure.

Time required

The time required depends on the number of layers and drying. Filling, sanding, priming and two coats of paint do not fit into one working day if the surface needs proper repairs. Rushing leaves visible sanding marks, shadows and uneven sheen.

Pricing factors

The price is affected by wall height, surface condition, crack repairs, the number of corners and ceilings, colour changes and whether furniture and floors need protection.

Common mistakes

Common mistakes include skipping primer, allowing too little drying time, failing to inspect the surface under suitable lighting and using cheap paint in a room where surfaces must withstand washing.

Advice for customers

For a good result, choose the colour using a sample in the same lighting in which the room will actually be used. If shelves, trim or panels will be fitted to the walls, agree their positions before the finish coat.

Frequently asked questions

Do you only paint, or do you also fill surfaces?

We do both. Where needed, we carry out local repairs, full-surface filling, sanding, priming and finish painting.

How long does painting take?

The duration depends on the number of rooms, drying times and surface condition. Smaller jobs often take a few days; larger properties need a more detailed schedule.

Does the customer need to buy the materials?

If you wish, we can help select materials or agree to supply the necessary primers, fillers and paints ourselves.

Do you work in furnished apartments?

Yes, but the speed and price depend on how much furniture needs to be protected or moved.

Does furniture need to be removed from the room before painting?

Ideally, the room should be as empty as possible. If furniture cannot be removed, it needs to be grouped together and covered, with enough access left to walls and ceilings.

Can I choose the colour while the work is underway?

It is better to confirm the colour before work starts, because ordering the paint, making a sample area and the colour after drying can affect the schedule. Where needed, we paint a sample area before painting the entire wall.

Why is priming necessary?

Primer evens out surface absorbency and improves paint adhesion. Without primer, the finish can be patchy or require more coats of paint.

Do you also repair cracks in walls?

Yes, but it is important to understand whether the crack is only in the finish or the structure is moving. A moving crack may need a different solution from a normal filler repair.

Is completed work covered by a warranty?

Yes. Construction and finishing work completed by RK Meistrid OÜ is covered by a 3-year warranty. The scope of the work and agreed terms are recorded in the quotation.
